. and one of their sure things was beating democrat claire mccaskill in missouri. then todd akin won the republican primary and started talking about legitimate rape and his poll numbers collapsed. now, despite the republican party's best efforts, akin's staying in this race. his website said yesterday, "i'm a women," that's how they pronounced and spelled it, "i'm a women for todd akin." and one woman picture there had is a democratic tracker. she's been following the campaign for claire mccaskill. and they replaced it with missouri women standing with todd akin. there they are standing, but there's no todd akin in that picture. he's not even pictured. with me now is dana milbank and shirra toblitz. why is this guy still able to walk before a camera and say, i want to be a united states senator? >> well, first of all, i love the idea that he has a democratic woman in his campaign photo there, because, of course, democrats are the one most enthusiastic about him remaining in the race. because he's the one likeliest to hand the seat right back to them. you know, this is maybe the luck

claire mccaskill may benefit from another round of offensive comments by todd akin, republican challenger. comparing her recent debate performance to a 2006 debate, akin likened the senator to a, quote, wild cat and said, in 2006, senator mccaskill had a confidence and was much more ladylike, but in the debate on friday she came out swinging. mccaskill responded today on "morning joe." >> i think the debate was tough for todd because i went through the list of his very, very extreme positions and i think that maybe he wasn't prepared to answer to some of that and so they went back to that -- i think that old, gosh, she was mean and unladylike. i mean this is somebody who kind of makes michelle bachmann look like a hippie. >> wow. >> michele bachmann, hippie. >> i want to bring you in here and set the context, many people watching me feel like gosh, claire mccaskill seems much more reasonable and senatorial than her challenger todd akin, than the guy calling her all these names, ma some nistic games. in july he was up by five points. in august, she's now up by nine points, but t

criticism for sexist remarks after claiming democratic opponent senator claire mccaskill was more " ladylike" in a previous election six years ago. he drew a massive backlash and calls to drop out of the race against clair mccaskill after remarking women rarely become pregnant from what he termed a legitimate rape. despite the criticism, he has remained in the race past a deadline earlier this week to remove himself from the ballot. his bid to unseat mccaskill is one of the most closely watched senate races this year. florida has resumed its controversial efforts to purge voters from the rolls less than six weeks before the november election. officials in florida recently said they had used a federal immigration database to identify about 200 non-citizen voters. that number marked a significant downgrade from florida's initial claim of nearly 200,000 possible non-citizen voters that was later reduced to a few thousand read the names of about 200 supposed non-citizens have been sent to local election officials, but there's evidence even people on that list are citizens who mistaken
